Types of Braces
Thanks to today’s technological advancements in orthodontic technology, Scottsdale Orthodontic Care provides our patients with more options when it comes to wearing braces than ever before. While standard metal braces are still used widely, clear braces and invisible aligners are growing in popularity along with removable appliances that can be used for mild cases of misaligned teeth.
Please see below or ask us to learn more about the types of braces we offer at our office. You will need to speak with your orthodontist to decide which appliance is the right choice for you.
Traditional Metal Braces
Traditional metal braces are the most commonly used type of braces. They are even smaller and more comfortable today than ever before. Made of high-grade stainless steel, metal braces straighten your teeth using metal brackets and archwires. With metal braces, the choice of adding colored elastics (rubber bands) for a more unique and colorful smile, is yours!
Ceramic braces are made of clear materials and are therefore less visible on your teeth than metal braces. Ceramic braces are used mainly on teenagers and adult patients who have concerns with the aesthetics of braces. While they are visually less prominent, they do require special attention to hygiene because the food and plaque will show very easily if not removed regularly. Colors are also available on clear braces for an especially bright look!
Clear appliances, such as Invisalign, use a series of invisible, comfortable, removable aligners to straighten your teeth. And, people will not be able to notice that you are wearing those aligners because they are invisible! Not only are the aligners invisible, they are removable, so you can eat and drink whatever you want while in treatment, flossing and brushing your teeth are less of a hassle. The aligners are comfortable and have no metal to cause mouth abrasions and discomfort during treatment.
Self Ligating Appliances (Damon and Empower)
Advances in metal technology have allowed for the creation of a new style of braces utilizing metal clips and not the traditional color circles. They have advantages in cases of extreme crowding situations and are quite comfortable.
